Classroom management tips and content-area activities help you extend the benefits of MindUP throughout your day, week, and year.

What is MindUP?

MindUP is a comprehensive, classroom-tested, evidence-based curriculum framed around 15 easily implemented lessons that foster social and emotional awareness, enhance psychological well-being, and promote academic success.

The MindUP classroom is an optimistic classroom that promotes and develops mindful attention to oneself and others, tolerance of differences, and the capacity of each member of the community to grow as a human being and a learner.

MindUP’s expansive dynamic is built to a large extent on routine practices that are inherent to the MindUP Curriculum.

Over the course of the MindUP experience, children learn about the brain and how it functions, in the process gaining insight into their own minds and behaviours as well as those of the people around them.

How Does MindUP Work?

The essential work of MindUP is accomplished through the lessons themselves, which include the repetition of the Core Practice—deep belly breathing and attentive listening. The Core Practice makes mindful attention the foundation for learning and interacting; ideally, it is repeated for a few moments of each school day throughout the year. (See Lesson 3, page 42, for a complete overview of the Core Practice.)

Posters: Each of the three books comes with an age-appropriate colourful poster with fascinating facts about the brain. Getting to Know and Love Your Brain: Full colour • 2 sided Poster • 20.75″ x 16.25″

Grades 6–8 challenges the older students—to react or to think it out, that is the question. As they learn to use the three key players in the brain to tell the difference between true emergencies and stressful situations, they’ll be better at handling situations and have more time to enjoy life!
