The MindUP Curriculum: Grades Pre-K - 2

The MindUP Curriculum is a comprehensive guide to help all learners focus and reach their potential through brain – centered management and teaching strategies.

This research-based curriculum features 15 lessons that use the latest information about the brain to dramatically improve behaviour and learning for all students.

Each lesson offers easy strategies for helping students focus their attention, improve their self-regulation skills, build resilience to stress, and develop a positive mind-set in both school and life. The lessons fit easily into any schedule and require minimal preparation. Classroom management tips and content-area activities help you extend the benefits of MindUP throughout your day, week, and year.

What is MindUP?

MindUP is a comprehensive, classroom-tested, evidence-based curriculum framed around 15 easily implemented lessons that foster social and emotional awareness, enhance psychological well-being, and promote academic success.

The MindUP classroom is an optimistic classroom that promotes and develops mindful attention to oneself and others, tolerance of differences, and the capacity of each member of the community to grow as a human being and a learner.

MindUP’s expansive dynamic is built to a large extent on routine practices that are inherent to the MindUP Curriculum.

Over the course of the MindUP experience, children learn about the brain and how it functions, in the process gaining insight into their own minds and behaviours as well as those of the people around them.

How Does MindUP Work?

The essential work of MindUP is accomplished through the lessons themselves, which include the repetition of the Core Practice—deep belly breathing and attentive listening. The Core Practice makes mindful attention the foundation for learning and interacting; ideally, it is repeated for a few moments of each school day throughout the year. (See Lesson 3, page 42, for a complete overview of the Core Practice.)

8 Keys to Building Your Best Relationships

    by Daniel Hughes

A revolution is under way in how we understand the nature of relationships, how we develop in those relationships, and how our brains function synergistically in connection with others. This field is known as attachment theory, and until now most of the cutting-edge insights have been written in “researcher-speak” and reserved for neurologists, psychologists, and others in the healing professions. Here veteran therapist and specialist in attachment disorders Daniel A. Hughes demystifies the research for lay people. By summarising in short, easy-to-read “keys” the theory and brain science that underpin... More info
