Review:

“Little Godwit Finds His Wings, by Emily Lim-Leh, is a 36-page children’s picture book that tells the story of a baby godwit hatching out of an egg, with his own kind nowhere in sight. Not knowing what to do, he tries to attach himself to any bird around him, hoping this is where he belongs. This leads him on a series of migration adventures where he continually meets different kinds of birds and tries to fit in. Except that he doesn’t, and fails trying to live up to the expectations of the various species around him. The story has a good ending and a satisfying conclusion that will delight young readers. The story includes a discussion section and information on the godwit species that is suitable for children to learn… John Lim’s bright and colourfully detailed pictures on each page make the godwit more loveable as the story progresses. The sharp details will make children want to read the story again and again. And of course the main message here is finding where one belongs. The godwit tries to please everyone around him by copying what they do. But none of it is successful or satisfying to our hero. However, the godwit never gives up trying and finally achieves what he was meant to both do and be. Little Godwit Finds His Wings by Emily Lim-Leh is a must-read for children of all ages and comes highly recommended.”
