Workshop Outline:

Whether we are workplace managers, supervisors, therapists, or teachers we set out to meet others with authentic, clear-headed, open-hearted presence. But depending on what is happening for us and inside us at the time, and our unconscious patterns, things can sometimes go awry.

The first day of this training will focus on understanding mindfulness at an experiential level, and developing basic skills in its application during times of stress and in meeting clients ‘where they are at’. Participants will be shown ways that mindfulness of self, others and the ‘space in between’ can invite authenticity, sharpen clarity and insight, and provide a compassionate presence for those who need our support and for ourselves.

Day two will introduce approaches in teaching basic mindfulness practices to client, exercises and enquiry into interpersonal mindfulness, and invite practical ways to use mindfulness to listen to our own needs for support, inner nourishment and balance. Drawing parallels between mindfulness and narrative and humanistic therapy and positive psychology, throughout the two day programme the facilitator will guide participants through a variety of life-affirming eastern mindfulness practices including sitting meditation,  yoga and tai chi.

Workshop Outcomes:

Day One:

  • Experiential understanding of mindfulness and basic mindfulness skills training
  • Using mindfulness as a compassionate therapeutic intervention and way of responding to clients’ stories
  • to develop confidence in both recognizing and responding to mindful insights

 Day Two:

  • Developing confidence in presenting basic mindfulness exercises to others
  • to recognise early signs of depletion and work fatigue
  • to explore on-going ways to integrate nurturing mindfulness practices to invigorate and uplift work practices, and to nourish and replenish self due to work-related fatigue
