Target Group:

Human service workers including social workers, psychologists, OT’s and other allied health workers, people working in community organisations, mental health, Queensland Health, private practice, and NDIS registered services.


This is an introduction to using creative therapies and may not be suitable for qualified arts therapists, although they are welcome to attend.

Day 1 Children and Families.

Day 2 Adolescents and Adults. Day 1 is a pre-requisite for day 2 as day 2 builds upon the content from day 1.

Workshop Outline:

In this hands-on experiential workshop, participants will learn how to use brain-based models for sequencing creative techniques with their clients.

Workshop Outcomes:

At the completion of the workshop, participants will have:

  • A thorough understanding of the rationale for using a brain-based creative approach and how it can benefit clients across the lifespan
  • Experience of using brain-based, creative focused psychological strategies suitable for working with their clients
  • The ability to sequence creative activities to support optimum emotional intelligence and growth
  • 12 hours of Professional Development

Facilitator Bio:

Bernadine Carroll has a background in social work, neuropsychotherapy and the creative arts therapies, with over 20 years’ experience in working with children and families. Bernadine currently works for an NGO as a team leader for a passionate team of people who work with families who have endured difficulties in their lives.

Claire Edwards is an art therapist, social worker and art therapy educator with over 30 years of clinical experience. Claire has worked in child and adult mental health, trauma and alcohol and drug rehabilitation in London and Brisbane. Claire is a lecturer at UQ on the Masters of Mental Health – Art Therapy and is in private practice.

Dianne Tucker is a psychologist with extensive experience working with adults, families, children, and young people. Dianne has worked with parenting and attachment, anxiety and depression, relationship issues, domestic and family violence, neuroscience, grief and loss and trauma.
