Workshop Outline:

Learn and practice the use of writing, words, word games, poetry and literature in your counselling and support work with clients.  This experiential workshop will guide you through several writing based activities and techniques that can enhance your work with people who experience various concerns and challenges in their mental health and wellbeing and family life.

The use of creative techniques in counselling can support people to express the hard to say and contain the difficult to feel. Writing can provide an avenue to reflect upon the issues we face in life and externalise them from ourselves, exploring the ups and downs of life in a safe way. Sometimes it is hard to find the words to explain our thoughts and feelings – getting creative through stories and metaphors however can help our brain to bring this out and give us a safe place to express difficult emotions. We can also find strengths and solutions in the worlds we create on the page.

Such techniques can also be used in self-supervision and group work. A self-supervision model will be used during the workshop to maintain a focus on skill development rather than personal concerns.

Please be advised that all activities are to be conducted at your skill level and within your role, with the support of quality professional supervision.

Workshop Outcomes:

By the close of the workshop participants will have:

  • Writing exercises that can be utilised in support and counselling work
  • Ideas to enhance your own continued Self-Supervision, team supervision and general self reflection
  • Confidence in using writing and word games for self-expression and reflection
